The Staff Accountant will report to our Controller and will assist the finance team in preparing month-end reconciliations, processing payroll, reviewing financial statements against budgets, cost analysis and other ad hoc projects. They will support the maintenance of the general ledger and the monthly accounting cycle. Knowledge of US GAAP and an ability to adhere to all internal standards is required. This position ensures that accounting transactions are properly recorded, posted, processed, and reported for accurate presentation of the financial statements; responds to internal escalations and ensures compliance with internal financial and accounting controls; helps coordinate activities that support the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports, and monitors general ledger maintenance and monthly accounting processing activities to ensure thoroughness and accuracy.Responsibilities:General ledger accountability research and respond to general ledger questions/inquiriesComplete balance sheet month-end reconciliations, reconciling general ledger activity for the monthUpdate and maintain daily bank reconciliations for multiple banks; ensure accurate and timely payments and postingsMaintain necessary working papers related to journal entries and reconciliationsAssist with processing of biweekly payroll and provide support to the Payroll SupervisorWork cross-functionally to compile or validate financial data for monthly reporting as needed to ensure accurate and timely period end reportingAssist on an as needed basis with AP and AR. This includes entering invoices for payment, processing check runs, assisting with AP approvals, and performing billingAbility to interact with internal and external personnel to obtain financial dataAssist in month-end and year-end closing procedures and financial statement reporting in accordance with US GAAPAssist in the preparation of internal, and external audit schedulesPrepare journal entries, financial statement support schedules and management reportsGL reporting and expense analysisAssist with oversight and adherence to internal controlsProvide Backup for other accountantsOther ad hoc and/or finance related assignmentsRequirements:Knowledge of US GAAP and application of accounting principlesAdvanced excel skills; ability to set-up and effectively use accounting software, spreadsheets, etc. to perform data analysisAnalytical and strong problem-solving skillsMust be detail-oriented, have a proactive approach and the ability to work with a teamAbility to investigate and resolve accounting discrepanciesMust be able to prioritize tasks and effectively manage and meet deadlinesEffective written and verbal communication skillsSelf-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervisionTrustworthy and moral character (we use pre-employment background & drug tests)Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, or other related field2+ years of general accounting, auditing and/or corporate finance experienceAdvanced MS Excel, Word and Outlook skillsAbout Coop At Coop Home Goods, we embrace individuality.
