Lead Surgery Veterinary Technician

VCA Animal Specialty Group is a very busy, fast paced, referral based specialty hospital. We specialize in multiple departments, including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Cardiology and 24 Emergency. We are located at the border of Glendale and Downtown, Los Angeles. Were approximately 10 minutes from the LA Zoo.
We are looking for a candidate that believe in high quality, compassionate care. We’re in search of a motivated licensed technician to lead our Surgery team.
Ideal candidates are proficient at the following:
Overseeing and organize the flow of the Surgery department, i.e. procedures, appts, staff lunches, overtime, etc.
Provide and maintain excellent comunication with the doctors, the clients and the associates on the Surgery team
Organize the staff to maintain the high caseload and ensure tasks are being completed thoroughly, efficiently and in a timely manner
Inspire and encourage associates to excel in their roles
Lead by example
Uphold and enforce VCA policies and ASG protocols
Ability to complete all tasks of a licensed technician. See below:
IV catheter placement (including sampling catheters)
Venipuncture (including arterial sticks) and U/S guided cystos
Taking radiographs
Anesthesia monitoring and recovery for advanced imaging, surgical procedures, and on calls
Calculating and preparing medications (including boluses and CRIs)
Preparation and assisting for minor/major surgeries and procedures
Restraining for exams and diagnostics
Applicants should be/have:
Able to work 10 hour shifts 4 days/week
Licensed for at least 2 years with veterinary specialty experience
Ability to lead with compassion
Able to work one weekend day and do overnight on calls
Exceptional communication skills and ability to multi-tasking in a very busy environment and work in a team environment
Outstanding organizational and time management skills, including attendance
Able to provide excellent client service and patient care
Ability to train associates and student externs
Open to working with a large management team
