Terran Orbital Corporation is seeking talented and motivated individuals for the summer 2023 Space Innovation Internship Program.

The GNC Engineering Intern would be responsible for design, analysis, implementation, and testing of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms for spacecraft.

Reporting to the Lead GNC Engineer, the GNC Engineering intern will have demonstrated GNC and software development using MATLAB and Simulink.

Requirements

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, analysis, implementation, and testing of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms for spacecraft
• Develop and maintain high-fidelity 6-DOF simulations with MATLAB/Simulink
• Vehicle control system architecture sizing and definition
• Software in the loop and hardware in the loop testing
• Development concept of operations and participation in mission simulations and mission operations
• Perform all other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

• Entering second year of M.S. in engineering field with concentration in dynamics and control
• Ability to work full-time, on-site at our Irvine, CA location for a minimum of 10 weeks during summer 2023
• 3+ months of applied engineering experience (internship, laboratory, and/or team project experience is applicable)
• Demonstrated GNC and software development using MATLAB and Simulink
• Strong fundamental understanding of orbital dynamics and classical mechanics
• Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without supervision
• Passion for the NewSpace industry
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Energy and passion to invent and create new solutions, challenge the status quo and drive positive change
• Experience with design of spacecraft rendezvous and proximity operations, fault detection/isolation/recovery, flexible body control, Kalman Filtering, MEMS and GPS sensors
• Hands on experience with small satellites, robotic systems, or similar
• C++ and Python

Additional Differentiators

• Ph.D. candidate in dynamics and controls is highly desired
• Experience with design of spacecraft rendezvous and proximity operations, fault detection/isolation/recovery, flexible body control, Kalman Filtering, MEMS and GPS sensors
• Hands on experience with small satellites, robotic systems, or similar
• C++ and Python

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: (adjust as needed)

This is largely a sedentary role with heavy computer usage. Position may require incumbent to move files, walk around the office, and bend/stand as necessary.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
